Synopsis This is the End

Jay Baruchel arrives in Los Angeles to visit an old friend and fellow Canadian actor, Seth Rogen, who invites him to a housewarming party hosted by James Franco. There, Jay feels uncomfortable at a crowded party, so Seth accompanies him to a convenience store to buy cigarettes.

When a blue beam of light descended and sucked many people into the sky, Seth and Jay fled back to James’ house and found the party unharmed. An earthquake struck, and the crowd rushed outside, witnessing a sinkhole open in James’ yard.

Several celebrities and party guests were killed as Seth, Jay, James, Jonah Hill, and Craig Robinson ran back into the house.

Jay informs the remaining partygoers that an earthquake has destroyed most of Los Angeles. They then took inventory of their supplies, set up a ration system, arranged the house, and waited for help. The next morning, Danny McBride, who crashed the party and fell asleep, wakes up first and finishes off a large amount of food.

He couldn’t believe what others were telling him about the previous night’s events until he saw a man outside being beheaded by an unseen creature.

The tension builds.

Tensions build over various conflicts, including Jay and Seth’s growing distance from each other. Jay believes that the disaster may the apocalypse foretold in the Book of Revelation. Emma Watson returns to James’ house, but there has been a misunderstanding. She believed the group was planning to rape her and left with the group’s remaining drinks.

Craig searches for water stored in James’ basement, but he encounters an unknown creature, causing him to believe Jay’s theory. Jay and Seth dig through the floor and find water, but Danny wastes most of it out of spite, and the others excommunicate him.

Before leaving, Danny reveals that Jay was in town two months earlier but was staying at a hotel rather than with Seth due to their strained friendship. That night, Jonah prays that Jay will die and possessed by a demon. Seth and James attacked by a possessed Jonah; they subdue him and tie him up.

During the attempted exorcism, Jay and Seth fight and knock over the candles, starting a fire that engulfs Jonah and the house and forces the others out.
