Dragged Across Concrete – The writer-director’s first and best film, 2015’s Western Bone Tomahawk signaled him as a bold figure with a flair for reinventing genres and a natural talent for drawing tasteful characterizations from his actors.
“Dragged Across Concrete” is the story of two police officers, in the fictional town of Bulwark, Brett Ridgeman (Mel Gibson) and his much younger partner, Tony Lurasetti (Vince Vaughn). They were suspended from the department without pay for overdoing their duties, namely using violence when arresting drug dealers.
Needing money quickly, Ridgeman hatches a scheme where he and Tony will rob other drug dealers. However, when they followed the criminal, they stumbled upon a bank robbery. Therefore, to assuage their guilt and fulfill their sense of responsibility, they chased the sadistic criminals to their hiding place.
Meanwhile, another character, a young man named Henry Johns (Tory Kittles), has just been released from prison. Also needing money, he lets a young neighborhood crime boss named Biscuit (Michael Jai White), who is also his childhood friend, persuade him to become a driver and look for criminals. At the hideout, Henry is caught between the criminals and two policemen.

1. The cast of Dragged Across Concrete doesn’t talk like normal humans
Nobody in Dragged Across Concrete talks like a real person. Even as the two absent cops discuss violating the moral code they’ve most cherished throughout their professional lives, they ramble on like glib versions of Raymond Chandler’s detectives.
For example, when Tony said “This is a bad idea” when he violated the police code of ethics. If translated into Indonesian the sentence means “This is a bad idea.” Meanwhile, Zahler responded with the sentence “It’s bad for you and it’s bad for me. It’s bad like lasagna in a can.” which translates to “It’s bad for you and bad for me. This is bad as lasagna in a can.”
2. Famous Director and Scriptwriter
This film was directed by S. Craig Zahler, a director and scriptwriter known for his unique and controversial works such as “Bone Tomahawk” (2015) and “Brawl in Cell Block 99” (2017). With a strong cinematographic style and a narrative full of tension, Zahler succeeded in creating a dark atmosphere in his film.
3. Quality Cast
“Dragged Across Concrete” also features two well-known actors, namely Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn as the main characters. Both have proven their acting skills in various film genres before, so audiences can expect great performances from both stars.
4. Captivating Story
The film tells the story of two corrupt police detectives, Brett Ridgeman (Mel Gibson) and Anthony Lurasetti (Vince Vaughn), who become involved in a series of behind-the-scenes crimes while trying to earn money illegally to improve their own lives.
