Episodes 1-2 Synopsis Island (2022)
Tamra is a place on Jeju Island that was once inhabited by creatures who lived in harmony. However, a fight between the gods and other living beings broke the harmony. To suppress it, the gods sealed the blood of 46 divine children into a stone called Dol Hareubang.
Many years have passed, but Dol Hareubang can still be found in Tamra. Two of them were found by a couple who were doing a photo shoot.
Unexpectedly, the two Dol Hareubang released evil energy that penetrated the bodies of the couple. As a result, both of them instantly turned into monsters.
The groom dies at the hands of a mysterious person named Van, while the bride manages to escape and catch another prey, a woman named Won Mi Ho. She is the daughter of the family that owns the Daehan Group, and she was transferred to Jeju because her aunt framed her in a power struggle.
Van is a half-human, half-monster human figure who has lived since ancient times. Since childhood, he and one other man, Goong Tan, were inhumanely created as monster hunters or demons of lust.
Seeing the suffering that Van and Goong Tan had to go through in the process, a little girl known as Won Jeong really wanted to help. He promises to come back when he grows up to release Van.
Unfortunately, Van, who has grown into a man and half a monster, kills him instead. Won Jeong, who is predicted to be the savior and balancer, seems to have been reincarnated into the figure of Won Mi Ho.
It turns out that Won Mi Ho’s arrival in Tamra was predicted by a diocese in Italy that used to deal with evil spirits. They then sent a young priest named Yohan to help, protect, and raise a savior for Mi Ho, who has now returned to Jeju.
Yohan is now at Mi Ho’s residence and ready to be introduced as the nephew of one of Mi Ho’s closest confidants, named Jang. Mr. Jang apparently already knows that Mi Ho is destined to become a savior, but he is pessimistic that Yohan can awaken his abilities.
Mi Ho himself continues to be chased by monsters who aim to kill him. He must run from his treacherous secretary, who has been possessed by a demon.
When Mi Ho was about to return to Seoul, he was again chased by a demon that possessed the body of a security guard. Fortunately, when pressed like that, Van always came to his rescue.
Van then explained that it was Mi Ho’s destiny to die at the hands of the demons of lust. Even if he returns to Seoul or to any other place, the demons will turn into humans who harm him.
Mi Ho has no other choice but to hide. She feels that her life is suffering, but she also doesn’t want to die in pain. Mi Ho considered hiring Van as his personal bodyguard. Before being approved, Mi Ho fell asleep.
While Mi Ho was sleeping, Van saw a mark on one of Mi Ho’s body parts. He remembers what Geum Baek Ju said: If Mi Ho really is Won Jeong, there must be marks on his body. Van looks confused and sad because, in the past, he had killed Won Jeong.
Episodes 3-4 Synopsis Island (2022)
On the first day of teaching at Tamra School, Mi Ho already has to deal with the attitude of the students, which irritates her. One of them is the grandson of Geum Baek Ju’s grandmother, named Yeum Ji.
The girl looked casually out of class, even though class was just about to start. Yeum Ji apparently headed for the house of Lee Su Ryeon, one of his friends who had not attended school for several days.
Yeum Ji is concerned about Su Ryeon’s plight because he has been tortured and terrorized by his lover, Yoon Gyeong Jun.He then advised Su Ryeon to ask the forest spirit named Benjulle for help.
By asking him, Benjulle would punish the person who had made someone’s life miserable. Su Ryeon, who was desperate with his suffering, immediately went to the forest and made a wish. Surprisingly, the girl’s body morphed into that of an evil demon after that.
Van, who suddenly attacks Mi Ho when he uses the demonic power of lust, ends up stabbing himself in the hand.
Van seems to be still trying to stay conscious so as not to harm Mi Ho, but guilt and fear make him decide to stay away. Johan also offered to replace Van’s duty to protect Mi Ho.
When he just started doing his job, Van received news about the whereabouts of his long-lost brother. The two were separated when they were both adopted and abandoned by their adoptive parents. Both Johan and his older brother, Kang Chan Hee, became victims of an organ harvesting syndicate.
The frail Kang Chan Hee now works at the docks. At the same time, several people were found dead without organs. Apparently it was the act of Kang Chan Hee, in whose body there was a demon lusting over Goong Tan’s control.
Goong Tan took advantage of the pain in Chan Hee’s body to kill Mi Ho because, according to him, Chan Hee could recover if he killed Mi Ho. Johan, who doesn’t know about his brother’s secret, brings him to Mi Ho’s residence and introduces them.
Mi Ho, who has just returned from the funeral of her best friend’s husband-to-be, doesn’t think that Johan’s brother is the murderer of her best friend’s husband-to-be. As soon as he met Mi Ho, the demon of lust in Chan Hee’s body wasted no time.
He immediately targets Mi Ho without Johan’s knowledge. Luckily, Van, who was watching from afar, immediately helped him.
Starting from there, Johan knows that his brother is possessed by the demon of lust and can harm Mi Ho. Mi Ho himself is getting tired of everything that happened to him, especially after the death of someone close to him. He then looked for Van to get an explanation about everything.
In a weakened state due to his fight with Goong Tan, Van begins to explain that Mi Ho is the reincarnation of a holy figure named Won Jeong. To get more information about Won Jeong, Mi Ho is asked to visit Geum Baek Ju’s grandmother.
From Baek Ju’s explanation, Mi Ho finally knows that he is an important figure who poses a threat to the demons of lust. Mi Ho also understands that only he can protect a large number of people from the demon of lust.
He wanted to help but was at a loss as to what to do. This desire drove him to risk assisting Johan in dealing with his older brother, despite Mi Ho’s confusion.
Van is indeed in a panic and is confused and sad because his efforts to save Chan Hee from the influence of the demon of lust were unsuccessful. Her exorcism rituals were not working. He then enlists Van and Mi Ho for help, but only Mi Ho is willing.
Without her knowledge, Mi Ho, who only wants to help Johan, is even threatened. His life almost passed into the hands of the demon of lust in Chan Hee’s body.
The van that came to help looked troubled because Chan Hee was so strong. And right before Mi Ho almost died, Johan stabbed Chan Hee from behind.
Fantasy drama about monster hunting Synopsis Island (2022)
Korean dramas that revolve around stories of battles between monsters and humans are not something new. If you’ve seen Bulgasal: Immortal Souls (2021), you’ll recognize the premise of the drama Island (2022).In the first two episodes, the battle between monsters and humans has been presented as the main plot.
You will see Kim Nam Gil, who plays Van, defeat monsters that attack a woman named Won Mi Ho, played by Lee Da Hee. The fantasy element is so strong that it is presented when Van fights monsters using his strength.
Kim Nam Gil’s action as Van when beating up monsters is even more impressive with the help of neat special effects. Armed with a magic dagger, he always appears whenever Mi Ho is in a state of threat. The use of CGI on the monster figure that Van is facing looks terrifying as well as being quite an entertaining attraction.
The Story of Immortal Beings and the Saviour
Drama Island (2022) follows the lives of a man who is an immortal human because his body is half monster and a woman who is destined to be a savior. In the first two episodes, their backgrounds are more or less told.
Van, played by Kim Nam Gil, has been a monster exterminator since childhood. He is strong but can also be dangerous. There is one flashback scene that shows that she is the figure who killed Won Jeong, the woman who was outlined to be a savior as well as a balancer.
This incident seems to be a potential source of conflict between Van and Won Mi Ho in future episodes. Until episode two, Van still acts as his protector, and Mi Ho has yet to show his strength.
The presence of the character Yohan, an eccentric, handsome, and talented young priest played by Cha Eun Woo, is also ready to add dynamics to the story.
If you like thrilling fantasy dramas where the characters have to deal with ugly monsters, Island (2022) can entertain you. Moreover, the appearances of Kim Nam Gil, Lee Da Hee, and Cha Eun Woo in the first two episodes were also convincing and made me curious.
Van make use of demonic energy power
In the last two episodes, Van was always present as Mi Ho’s savior, who was threatened by the presence of the demons of lust. While defeating them, Van doesn’t appear to use any other dangerous energy.
Now! In the continuation of the story in episodes three and four, you will see Van starting to use demonic energy in his body.
He used the evil energy twice.first, when defeating Benjulle, and second, when fighting with Yohan. The changes in Van’s expressions and eyes become more sinister, accompanied by uncontrollable power, which are the most interesting attractions in these two episodes.
Van murders Mi Ho for the second time?
Apart from that, another interesting attraction in episodes three and four of the drama Island (2022) is the fight between Van and Yohan.
With the help of special effects, Kim Nam Gil and Cha Eun Woo defeated each other by using each other’s strengths. However, after the high tension of the duel between the two people with supernatural abilities, the ending of episode four made me worried and curious.
The reason is that Van attacked Mi Ho like he did in his past life. There was also blood splashed on Mi Ho’s face, which looked very shocked.
Johan’s Tragic and Dramatic Story
The excitement of watching Kim Nam Gil, Lee Da Hee, and Cha Eun Woo in action in the drama Island (2022) turned out to be paused in episode six because, according to reports, the production team had not finished editing.
Having to wait again while the story gets more exciting is sure to make you nervous. Especially at the end of episode six, there was a completely unexpected surprise. The last two episodes in Part 1 bring out new characters and clarify existing ones.
Johan, who looks carefree, turns out to have a sad story in the past because he had to part with his biological brother. The reunion between the two becomes emotional because that’s when Johan must also be prepared to lose again.
The Surprise of the Goong Tan Character
These two episodes, in addition to recounting Johan’s past and dramatic choices, also clarify Goong Tan’s character, who does not appear much at first.
A glimpse of Goong Tan in the story in the first episode reveals that this figure is the same as Van; he’s a human child who has monster energy. After that, he wasn’t shown much, and it wasn’t until episodes 5–6 that he appeared to pose a threat.
The surprise from Goong Tan’s figure was not only about the authenticity of his evil character and his readiness to become Van’s worst enemy; it also came from Baek Ju’s grandmother’s granddaughter.
The curt and cold attitude he showed whenever he saw Van had a reason. Unfortunately, further motives or backstory about him are still a secret. We’ll have to wait for part two to find out the answer!
