Thelongestfilm – Review Kimetsu no Yaiba, which released in Japan on October 16, 2020, dismissed this fear.

Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie: Mugen Train will released this Wednesday, January 6, 2021. Before that, will share reviews of this film here. If you don’t want spoilers, you can watch it first and then read it.

A Long Journey on an Almost Endless Train

Those of you who have followed the anime, of course, already know that this film continues the anime, which actually ends on the train where the next adventure will take place. However, Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie: Mugen Train opens the film with a narration about the meaning of life and about the sadness that Kagaya Ubuyashiki might not be able to express.

This film covers the entire Mugen Train arc, which reunites Tanjiro with Kyojuro Rengoku, a Hashira whose strength is recognized not only by Demon Slayers, but also by demons who are his natural enemies. Together with Zenitsu and Inosuke, the four of them go on an unexpected trip to a dreamland.

Enmu, a Lower Rank demon, sent to kill Tanjiro in order to obtain the Upper Rank position and Mujan Kibutsuji’s blood, which could strengthen him.On the other hand, Tanjiro boards the Mugen Train to meet with Rengoku, who might have information about Hinokami Kagura’s secret move.

Unfortunately, Enmu was already on the train and was ready to devour them all by trapping them alive in dreamland. This is where the long, almost endless journey begins!

In terms of plot, the background story is simple. However, the packaging afterwards will amaze you. The opening just amazes me with a landscape that looks so real that you might think twice about whether this is an anime or live action.

Slick Animation in Almost All Sections

imetsu no Yaiba The movie Mugen Train is indeed a feast for the eyes. Ufotable has clearly succeeded in combining CG effects with 2D anime animation here. Apart from that, the camera movement and the focus on each character are also very detailed.

Even for anime viewers, this film still has a way of providing conflict without confusing you. The setup is very smooth, and the plot flows without missing any important manga details.

In fact, this film is so “honest” with the manga that readers of the manga can’t seem to complain about this adaptation. From the plot to the animation point of view, if you compare it head-to-head with the manga, this film is really that honest.

The animation in the fight scene on the train is really cool. In fact, you can feel the action with a score that really builds the atmosphere. Unfortunately, this CG effect is what finally tarnished the animation of Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie: Mugen Train.

There are some parts that feel unsightly. One of them is when Enmu begins to blend in with the train, it appears that Enmu’s “flesh” does not blend in with the surroundings.

However, that doesn’t reduce the action that manages to make you excited and tense. Especially in the battle between Akaza and Rengoku, the action can be so intense that you can’t wait to breathe a sigh of relief.

Character Development?

Indeed, the Mugen Train Arc is really short in the manga, from Chapters 54 to 69. So, there’s no time for character development because the 25-episode anime has become the ground for building the characters of Tanjiro and his friends.

However, for a film that really continues what left behind in the anime, this film actually needs a few more sequences to explain Rengoku’s character.

REVIEW Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie: Mugen Train (2021)

Rengoku is an important character in this film because he is Hashira, who may have knowledge of Tanjiro’s father, who also mastered the art of fire breathing.Unfortunately, Rengoku doesn’t get enough portions to make the ending of this film really painful.

This film is arguably quite slow to get to its peak. However, the background story of each character is important for the climax, and that is what builds the conflict of this film. Instead of providing space for character development, this film emphasizes the character of each character with the stories they see in their dreams.

The background story of each character here has the right portion. However, it feels like there is still room for building Rengoku’s character and digging deeper into his past. This is important for those who haven’t read the manga, so that the scene at the end of the film is relevant.

REVIEW Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie: Mugen Train (2021)

What can’t be resisted from Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie: Mugen Train, though, is the action. When Zenitsu was in his “sleep mode,” he began moving quickly to assist Nezuko; Zenitsu appeared to be very cool there.Inosuke doesn’t want to miss acting with Tanjiro to finish off Enmu.

For sure, you will also be very satisfied to see the battle between Akaza and Rengoku as the climax. It was intense, and it wasn’t clear who would win until it was completely over. Cool action, music that blends with every action, and conflict that doesn’t beat around the bush make this film a super-complete package for anime connoisseurs.

Kimetsu no Yaiba The movie Mugen Train has met expectations from all sides. From the animation, storyline, and conflict through the climax, everything fits. What is clear is that this film opens a new path for Tanjiro, which will be continued in the anime.
