New Lord of the Rings (LOTR) film franchise has reportedly reached an agreement with Warner Bros. to work on several new films.
Variety on Thursday (23/2) US time reported that the CEO of Warner Bros. David Zaslav confirmed that two of their studio’s new officials, Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, were the main figures who bridged the initiation.
Peter Jackson remains involved
Although details on the director involved have yet to be confirmed, LOTR trilogy director Peter Jackson and his collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are said to remain involved in the project.
“We look forward to continuing to discuss with them further to hear their vision for this franchise in the future,” said Jackson, Walsh, and Boyens in their official statement, as reported by via Variety.
The latest LOTR film projects will under the umbrella of the production house owned by Warner Bros. New Line Cinema will work with Embracer Group, the official licensee for adaptations of Tolkien’s novels for the LOTR and The Hobbit franchises.
On the other hand, this agreement also welcomed by Freemode, the company that owns the film license under the Embracer umbrella. This deal will come under the umbrella of Middle-earth Enterprises.
“Following the recent acquisition of Middle-earth Enterprises, we are excited to embark on a new collaborative journey with New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures to bring the world of J.R.R. Tolkien back to the big screen in a new and exciting way,” said Lee Guinchard, CEO of Freemode , reported by Variety.
